If you have a budget allocated on a monthly or quarterly basis, it will be renewed at the beginning of each period (for example, the first day of the month or quarter).
If there is a remaining amount at the end of a period, this amount may or may not be carried over to the next month, depending on your employer's choice:
- ✅ Your employer allows carryovers of amounts: the remaining amount will be retained and carried over.
Ex. You have a monthly budget of €100, of which €30 was not spent by the end of January. On February 1st, you will then have €130 (€30 carried over from January + €100 monthly budget for February). - 🚫 Your employer does not allow carryovers: the remaining amount will not be retained and will be lost.
Ex. You have a monthly budget of €100, of which €30 was not spent by the end of January. On February 1st, you will then have €100 (only your monthly budget, with the €30 from January being lost).
The carryover from one year to another depends on the type of budget you have (possibly there is a legal framework, for example, for the Belgian Mobility budget) and the choice made by your employer.
